DESCRIPTION:The National Domestic Communications Assistance Center (NDCAC) and FBI CAST is offering a FREE* three-day Understanding Investigative Techniques for Modern Telecommunications course\, April 25-27\, 2017\, from 8 AM to 5 PM at the NDCAC Facility in Fredericksburg\, VA. \nThe Understanding Investigative Techniques for Modern Telecommunications Course is a three day course created to equip law enforcement with basic skills with/in cellular records analysis and new communication services and technologies to enhance current criminal investigative techniques.  Students will be introduced to packet data communication\, how it impacts a criminal investigation\, and how law enforcement can capture\, process\, and legally interpret authorized collected data.  Students will learn how to analyze call detail records in support of cases and produce geospatial products illustrating the range and approximate coverage areas of cell towers. \nStudents will be introduced to topics such as:\n*         Fundamentals of Telephony\n*         Overview of Wi-Fi Technology\n*         Introduction to Packet Data Communications\n*         Data Pen Register /Packet Data Report Examples /Demo RIPT Tool\n*         Carrier Specific Call Detail Record Analysis using MS Excel\n*         Carrier specific geospatial mapping using FBI developed software tools\n*         Cell Site Analysis \nOnce you receive approval from your management\, complete class registration (following the steps on the attached document) by 3/17/17. Notification of your acceptance and attendance will be sent to your office no later than 3/22/17. \nIn order to enroll in this course and receive access to services and resources offered by NDCAC\, law enforcement personnel must apply for a Law Enforcement Enterprise Portal (LEEP) account with Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) and a NDCAC account with NDCAC’s Technical Resource Group (TRG).
