Victor has helped create positive de-escalation skills for all levels of private and public interests with an emphasis on treating the mentally ill with empathy and compassion.\nPaul Hartinger has over thirty years of law enforcement experience including twenty years teaching and training police officers in topics including Crisis Intervention and mental illness response. \nCourse Description: This course is designed for all first responders and supervisors who might encounter someone suffering from mental illness\, who is in crisis\, or may be experiencing symptoms of excited delirium. Students will learn basics of recognizing mental illness symptoms and how to respond appropriately to de-escalate the situation and get the individual the help they need. SUMMARY:Crisis Intervention Team Training
DESCRIPTION:Description \n**NOTE: This is a five day class: Monday – Friday\, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM each day.\nThe training will be held at Great Oaks. It is free to law enforcement\, corrections and criminal justice professionals. Registration is required.\nThe training is facilitated by Liz Atwell\, Executive Director of Mental Health America of Northern Kentucky and Southwest Ohio\, a provider of premier quality education and training in behavioral health in our region.\nCrisis Intervention Team Training is 40-hours of comprehensive training to increase skills in relating to individuals with mental illness. Training emphasizes behavioral health-related topics\, access to community-based services\, de-escalation tactics\, and crisis resolution skills. Training format consists of didactics/lectures\, on-site visitation and exposure to several behavioral health facilities\, intensive interaction with individuals with mental illness and substance use disorders\, and scenario-based de-escalation training. Experience has shown this is a minimum level of training hours. Materials covered are complex.
