Digital Video Evidence Recovery
Workshop Outline
Video surveillance has been helping law enforcement agencies around the world investigate, identify and prosecute suspects in a wide variety of cases. However, the transition from analog to digital recording technologies has required a change in practices for the recovery and processing of video evidence. Today an increased level of technical knowledge is required for the proper retrieval of video evidence from a diverse range of proprietary Digital Video Recorders (DVRs). Without this knowledge for recovering digital video evidence, the video may be ineffectual, degraded in quality, or simply lost.
The Digital Video Evidence Recovery Workshop presented by Resolution Video provides clear guidance and procedures to follow when retrieving video evidence. Utilizing the latest Best Practices documents from the Technical Support Working Group (TSWG), the Home Office Centre for Applied Science and Technology, and the scientific Working Group for Imaging Technologies, students will gain an understanding of the methodologies presented and the tools required for retrieving video evidence. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Evidence Collection Forms will also be presented and discussed.
Topics covered include:
- Hardware Utilized in a Digital Video Recorder
- Software Designs of a Digital Video Recorder
- Best Practices Review and Analysis
- Workflow for Retrieving Video Evidence
- Tools Required for Retrieving Video Evidence
- Verification Procedures for Video Evidence
Numerous hands-on exercises utilizing a variety of DVRs will emphasize the complex nature of retrieving video evidence from these systems. The workshop utilizes over 700 pounds of video equipment to demonstrate effective and efficient retrieval methods with a wide variety of system tools.
This three-day workshop is appropriate for first responders, crime scene specialists, criminal investigators, and forensic video analysts who recover, review and/or analyze video evidence from DVRs.
